Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Hopkins and Natalie Portman
Thor is a
film I have been looking forward to seeing for a very long time; the concept of
a Norsk God captured in Comic form and then lived through Cinema is a very
appealing prospect, and the film did not disappoint.
The story
of someone losing something due to their rash nature and developing a different
understanding due to mortality has been told and retold, and with Thor there is
nothing new in relation to storytelling, but this is not a bad thing. Due to
the idea being very simplistic the film flows brilliantly, Thor gets his powers
back and kicks ass, and basically that is what everyone wanted to see.
People have
criticised this film for being very unbelievable, but you need to ask yourself
this… is the film meant to be believable? It’s about a hammer wielding God who
has free roam to go anywhere in the galaxy. The entire concept of the film is
unbelievable, so my advice is to go into this film with a completely open mind
to anything being possible and you will enjoy every second of it.
The film
ties into many different concepts: government, power, family, love, friends etc.
and it leaves you with a very positive feeling. It is a brilliant piece of work
from director Kenneth Branagh and the casting was equally great. Chris
Hemsworth was a superb choice for the leading role, his accent was great,
his actions were brilliant and he fit perfectly into the thunder-filled shoes
of Thor; Natalie Portman was equally good as the beautiful yet brilliantly
clever scientist and Tom Hiddlestone as Loki, the
manipulative friend/foe, was fantastic throughout.
Take this
film for what it is and you will enjoy it. Look deeply into Thor and you will
find yourself ruining what was meant to be an easy view and a brilliant piece of
cinema.
